When looking through the units we’ve been through since the beginning of the year, I’ve come to realize that Americans would be at a complete lost if it weren’t for our retarded government system. The constitution basically controls our lives. Capitalism controls our lives by infiltrating our working minds. Birth is changed greatly and made to look like a disease. Health care is very unjust and many Americans do not have it because they can’t afford it. Our economy is made to look like everyone is equal and how hard you work defines how successful you are. Food is just a fucked up mess that the majority of Americans are completely oblivious to. Energy is the basis of life, but people do not know that the way we get it has a massive affect on the environment. Americans will not resist authority, it’s almost as if we were brainwashed to believe that the United States of America is the best place the live because of its so-called “prosperous” economy.
The constitution, Americans refuse to disobey this sacred piece of paper containing racist, sexist, and unfair rules that are suppose to control our wholes lives. The constitution was created by evil, lying white supremacists who used euphemisms throughout the constitution. The constitution was written so it could control the government that controlled the Americans. There are rules in it that shape our lives. The constitution was set up to keep things from being equal. All the powers are definitively separated. Power was separated to prevent a possible tyranny and to keep the powers to the rich people. When power is not granted to the citizens of America, we citizens become scared. We are scared because we cannot fight back with small numbers but there are not enough people to fight the government system. The constitution is a solid base that will not be broken because the people with power do not care for the little pests that lack in power.
Capitalism is the way the government handles sales in the United States. It is suppose to be an economic system in which goods and services are produced, consumed and distributed through the mechanism of free markets based deeply on the right to private property and the profit motive. What a lie. I agree with my history teacher, Andy’s, definition of capitalism. He stated that “Capitalism is an economic system in which the overflowing majority toil for the profit of the tiny minority. “We work, they profit.” What Andy is saying here is that the working class makes up the majority of America and they all work for the minority of rich business owners who don’t do any work but gain profit on the labor of the majority. These business owners start out with wealth and create capital. When capital is created, labor is needed to make the profit. When the profit is made, the business owners collect it and hands out small portions of it to their workers and keep the majority of it to themselves. Which they then use to create more capital and the cycle starts again because the business owners had already started out with wealth in their pockets.
Capitalism has alienated our lives from ourselves. Labor has been commodified and alienated. The working class and below have no wealth, therefore they don’t own any commodities. The only thing they know how to sell is their own labor. They have learned to commodify their own bodies in order to make a living while the rich white folk sit back and relax as hundreds of Americans are making money for them.
Once again Americans will not resist the authority of their employers so they can maybe have better benefits. Americans will do anything to make money; they will not risk losing their jobs because they want to stand up for themselves one day. Capitalists will continue to expropriate the workers who work hard to support their families. In the end, the American way of life is not family based, it is entirely work based.
Birth is seen with similarity to a science experiment. Doctors like to explore the inner depths of a woman’s body so they can know what is the best possible way for women to give birth. In reality, the best way for a woman to give birth is by listening to her own body. She does not need the drugs involved in giving birth according to doctoral commands. This is another incident where Americans will always listen to authority. If the doctor said the woman had to get a c- section even if she didn’t want one to start with, she is walking out of that hospital after an expensive 2 days stay with stitches across her belly. In times of crisis, human beings tend to do what the alpha power chooses, obediently.
People both long for and fear chaos. But when doctors take control, they begin to take too much control to try and relieve stress but the pressure from the doctor will on put more stress on the mom and baby. Borders cross and good becomes evil.
As seen in the biased movie “Business of Being Born” midwives are the better and more conventional way to go for births. Even though the movie was really biased in showing only the pros of midwifery and the cons of hospital births, I agree that midwives are the better way to go. It is a way for Americans to fight back authority. When midwives are chosen, women are not giving doctors the satisfaction of controlling another birth. Women are not allowing doctors to have their way in order to make the most amount of money for themselves. Medical decisions are made by monetary and legal decisions rather than what is best for the mother.
There is also the question of money when it comes to birth. When women are pregnant, they are at a higher risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, or possibly death and others. Insurance companies do not want to pay for you. Insurance companies want you to pay them. So they will raise your rate if they catch wind of a possible ailment that you may have. When the rate is raised, Americans need to work harder to pay for their life insurance.
When an American receives a paycheck, the whole paycheck is never taken home. The government taxes it and takes some out for this so called social security savings that they’ll never see.
When Danish kids visited us from Denmark, they taught us about their government and health system and vice versa. We learned that it was actually hard to be poor in Denmark. Everything there is a given. Free health care, free college, and free hospital visits. Though their highest tax bracket may have been 63% it doesn’t mean that 63% of their paychecks when to taxes. 63% is just the nominal tax, in actuality, the people there are paying the same taxes as we are but in addition they are getting stuff for free while we have to pay for it all.
Taxes in the United States may all seem equal. But $5000 worth of taxes could be easily paid by a rich person whereas $5000 would take a large toll on a lower social class. When it comes to health insurance, it looks like rich people are going to survive longer than the lower social classes. Our government is not egalitarian.
In the movie SiCKO, Michael Moore showed us how hard it is for lower class individuals to receive health care. This was also a biased movie that I sided with. Moore did not show any pros to the American health care system. Instead he showed us that being a prisoner at Guantanamo Bay is better than being a U.S. citizen. He did not show us the torture that the prisoners go through and how some health cares are indeed affordable in America. Moore described to us that in order to people to get the medications they need, they get married to Canadians or follow Moore onto a ship to Guantanamo.
Michael Moore showed us ways to go against authority and fight for our right to stay healthy without having to relinquish our paychecks to multiple taxes and health agencies. The question of the matter is, will Americans follow his advice? Will we go against authority? The answer is no. We become lost and scared without the government riding on our asses telling us what is the right thing to do and how we should do it.
Food is one of the main aspects of life. We will die without food. We, Americans, all consume food on a daily basis multiple times a day but we never knew where our food really came from until now. Food starts out innocent, becomes dirty and disgusting and then we eat it all when it’s cooked and tasty. Food is derived from the natural resources of the land. We steal the nutrients of the land to provide ourselves with large amount of food to support a large population because agriculture was introduced.
The introduction to agriculture was all the start of our slow demise. We have become lazy slums who are entirely reliant on machinery to provide us with our living needs. We are letting machinery take over the cultural aspects of the American Way of Life. We have let our lives get controlled by various different authorities because we are too lazy to haul our asses around to do our own work and to stand up for ourselves. No, we just let the government handle things and we just sit back and do our own thing. Be it working or just taking leisure time, we are not controlling our lives. The government has corrupted us with the idea that they are letting us take control of our lives by taking control of the major aspects of life so we don’t have to worry about them. As a result they go behind our backs and perform inhuman acts to animal so we apathetic Americans can enjoy our meat. We enjoy the meat so much that humans cannot handle the amounts of meat produced so animals are put through cycles of a factory in order for there to be enough to go around.
Agriculture has made America explode with people and technology. With new technology brings more food which brings more people who then bring more technology. This is a continual cycle that will soon break because we will soon run out of natural resources.
Our natural resources are not being preserved so they can have time to grow again. We are using so much of it so fast that there can only be so much in the world. The nutrients are being sucked out of the earth so fast that there isn’t enough time for the earth to reproduce it. Accordingly, Americans will pour steroids and excess nutrients in order to liven the soil to which our produce will grow.
Nutrients will always be back, trees can grow back over time if given it but what about our oil and fossil fuel? Oil and fossil fuel is the basis of our lives. If they run out what will we do? Sure there will be the sun but the sun will soon become to hot because of the holes in the ozone layer caused by the pollution from the oils and gases we used. We can go to the authorities and they will tell us to just relax, everything will be taken care of and we will do exactly that because Americans are blind mice letting his cheese get stolen by his neighbors. We will turn or backs to the problem because we do not feel that we have the authoritative power to do something. Because we will be scared and helpless but all we’ll say is “the government will take care of it”.

Our Collapse
Our economy is going in a downward spiral towards our eventual demise. We are on a slow collapse as one would say. Our economy is falling but little people are really noticing. The government is trying to cover up the collapse of the United States of America because mass panic is unnecessary. If Americans were to find out that the name that the United States achieved to be prosperous is now a lie, mass panic would throw us into a whirlwind of disastrous events.
It is true that the United States had once upheld the name of being prosperous but as soon as agriculture was introduced, we had a cultural boom that triggered the beginning of our downfall. When the American Way of Life was born, I can’t but help to reiterate from my paper on food ethics that, agriculture has made Americans lazy and dependant on machinery. Cultural boom = Population boom = infectious bacteria, viruses and deadly diseases.
Sure we could possibly have a cool collapse where everyone goes green and that looks like what the government is aiming for with all this green advertisement. Or it could just be another cover up for a much bigger disaster. I think the later is more likely. I feel that the government is trying to cover up a disaster that involves either our resources such as fossil fuel running out or that many holes are forming in our ozone layer allowing harmful UVA and UVB rays into the earth. It could possibly be that our pollutions from oil run factories and gas run vehicles and other forms of toxic waste is slowing destroying our earth and unlike in our example of drowning in class, we’re all going to toast like the villagers of Pompeii when Mount Vesuvius erupted. (The people of Pompeii died instantly and were encased in full body casts from the ash that went through the town. Wikipedia)

Paper on Food Ethics
Through the unit on food, I learned many valuable lessons. Or should I should say I learned many facts since my food ways haven't changed. Food around the world is definitely not an easy subject to study when it comes to moral understanding. When we watch videos of less fortunate, third-world countries that suffer from starvation it is hard not to ponder ways that we can help. The same goes for animal cruelty. When I watched the videos that explained where our meat comes from it's unsettling to the stomach. It's hard to watch them without flinching or feeling squeamish. Agriculture has also troubled our American Way of Life. It has changed the way we live entirely but not without consequences. The food unit has opened up all our innocent minds to the reality of the food industry and how much it affects people around the world.
The United States is a prosperous country with a selfish government but even as we are slowly heading towards our collapse, we are still able to feed Americans for the time being. When the homeless are hungry, soup kitchens and shelters are opened to them with welcoming arms. Though our food may not be as great as the sterilized plants of Japan in the article "Industrial Food in Japan in 2.0", it is good enough to keep us all alive and going as was explained in the movie "Crude Impact".
We are a fast growing population and we have an abundance of this crappy food. But since our government is so selfish, all this surplus food is kept in warehouses for possible emergencies. Sure we can pass out food to Americans but we should be smart enough to store our own food. Instead of keeping it all we should provide third-world countries with supplies and food that we do not need. They definitely need it more than us.
Animals are the main source of the food in the United States but rarely do people wonder where all the meat comes from. Through our unit, we had to explore the dark evils of the meat industry.
Meat came to be in a very peculiar way, rather disgusting as a matter of fact. Animals, specifically chickens, pigs and cows are treated as if they were already dead and not living things. In a way those animals are considered already dead assuming the road that they are on but I like to think of them as living things that breathe and eat like humans do.
From the videos that we were shown of animal cruelty, meat came to be from animals who were not taken well care of. The animals, three species alike, were confined to small spaces with little to no space to move with the exception of bulls. The animals are given hormonal shots that made them gain excessive weight that their legs could not support. They are then fed grain instead of natural grass and hay feed because the consumption of grain would lead to meatier animals. The old, sick, dying or just the ones with weak legs are killed because they do not meet the standards of the meat industry. It’s surprising that they would have standards at all because the conditions that the animals live in are worse than the conditions of a homeless human. Needless to say, our meat came from tortured animals.
Jared Diamond stated that agriculture is the worst mistake of human history. I agree. Agriculture has indeed made our lives easier but it has not improved our living environments and styles. It has made us all band together in large groups that grow exponentially. Our large groups soon instigated the evolvement of new bacteria and viruses that lead to incurable diseases such as cancer or HIV. Diamond stated that if a modern man of today were given the choice of living as a nomad of an ape like our ancestors, he would surely say no. This answer is due to the fact that agriculture has made humans lazy. Instead of getting our food and energy from sweat and hard work, we get it from fuel burning machinery. Agriculture has made us lazy because we are so reliant on this machinery that if we were to run out of natural resources that fueled our laziness, we wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves. The nomads and apes, the ancestors who we refuse to demote our social stability to, will be the ones to survive because they know how to hunt and gather food from the wild.
In the end, humans are lazy and the technology that has brought us so much leisure will lead to our eventual downfall.

When Answering the Phone
When a family member calls, i would say hello? and would always be greeted with "have you eaten yet?" When i say "yes" it sounds as if ive fufilled their dreams by feeding myself. If i responded with "no" i would be barraged by questions along the lines of: " when are you going to eat?", "What are you going to eat?", " Will you go eat?"
i find it funny that we had that lesson in class today about how its joyful to eat rogether. I seems as though people are also happy when other people around them eat too.

We Changed Our Minds
Chelsea and I changed our minds and decided to make these cookies instead because we didn't want to get all the ingredients for the previous recipes. These were harder to make than we thought. Baking is extremely hard. All the ingredients were suppose to be perfectly measured and it was hard since i lost my teaspoon measuring thing. While we were blending all the ingredients together my mixer started to smoke out of the back. We really don't know how we managed to do that but the overall mission was a success. Chelsea has the pictures of our journey on her blog.

What?! >:O
From the title of this blog I'm sure you can assume one of the videos I had watched. Animal cruelty. Seriously?? That shit is just crazy. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't watch it till the end. I couldn't. I never understood why there were so many animal cruelty prevention groups and why there was so much surrounding animal cruelty. I only knew it as animal testing and mutilations because products were tested on animals. I never knew that the meat that shows up in my food came from these kind of places. Please tell me that there are better places to get the food and that this was only the worst place to get meat because i really can't go vegetarian. I have always thought about it but i never could bring myself to do it because of my large consumption of meat. If i were to become a vegetarian, I don't think my family would support me because they have always been worried about my health since i was young. My culture is also very meat centered. On special occasions such as birthdays or Chinese New Year, a chicken and roasted pig are placed on the table for praying so they can be blessed before we eat them. I highly doubt that having a blessing will take away the pain they went through to get on our dinner table. Is it better to get poultry from a small poultry place where the poultry is treated better? Because my mom and dad are always getting poultry from a live poultry place 10 minutes from our house. I feel that it is better because the animals are not tortured as in the video. The animals are not given the steroids to grow them. On the other hand I think it's just the same. A small poultry place had to have gotten their animals from somewhere. They are just the slaughter house of small proportions. This video had a great impact on me. I really got me thinking. I didn't like it. I feel as if I'm put into a tough position. I feel guilty that I eat meat and I don't feel as though I will stop.
Another video i watched was the Meatrix. This series of videos was similar to the animal cruelty video. I brought light to the watchers eye about what really goes on in the real world with meat. It is definitely not like the pastures on television where animals move and live freely. This video along with the animal cruelty video brought on a cruel truth. When I got upstate with my family, I can look out the window and see cows grazing in the grass and they seem to be enjoying themselves. I can also go down the road of the house where the neighbor has a small chicken pen and the chicken are always running freely across the lawn. I may be able to see these things as we go but i think about in the end, they die. They die for the benefit of humanity. When we go grocery shopping and we go to the meat section and I see all the meat packaged all nice and neatly, I don't think about the dirty dirty past that the meat went through to get into those shiny plastic containers. Speaking on the lines of nice and neat and free animals, there is this commercial on TV about happy cows in California producing healthy milk. They say that the best milk comes from happy cows in California. Real California Milk. What a fucking lie! I seen the part where the cows are impregnated every year and the calves are stripped from them the moment they're born because the workers need the damn milk for a profit. And after the cows have been used until they are no longer able to produce milk, they are auctioned for slaughter. And then there's that stupid Perdue commercial about healthy and happy chicken with no steroids, I'm not sure if i should even believe that anymore. The guy on TV may look nice but he could be just the same cold hearted killer as in the the videos. These corporate people know how to sell their shit and make it look like the best stuff on earth. That's fucking bullshit.
I also watched the Pollan vs. Colbert video. I didn't get much from that video, it was just informative on how the majority of food in the world is fake. Its all processed and that we should eat more "real" stuff. But does Pollan realize that the organic stuff sold in groceries and supermarkets are expensive and not everyone can afford it even if they did want to go healthy. With our economy anyone would be lucky and fairly well off to be able to eat organic foods all the time. Sure we can plant our own but who has time when every one's worried about their finances in this falling economy? Pollan is right to suggest that we should go more natural on our food habits but he has to keep in mind of the less fortunate people who must work hard to make their much needed money. They will hardly have to time to put proper nutrition into their bodies.

Spread on cooled cake.15
Sprinkle chopped walnuts over top of the frosting, if desired.

Response to Pollan 1
I agree with the arguments stated in the first few pages in Omnivore's Dilemma by Micheal Pollan that Americans are so obsessed with health that many of us are actually confused about the way we should really be eating. Once Americans are confused about what to do we turn to the "experts" on the subject matters to tell us what to do. When we get anxious with what foods we should eat we turn to nutritionists thinking that they would know whats best for us by suggesting the same plan to everyone who asks but just in a slight variation. Pregnant women do just about the same thing when they are in labor, they get anxious and scared so they seek medical attention from money loving doctors who suggest to them the labor process of the hospital that is provided for every pregnant woman who comes through. Little do Americans know that they should know what is best for them in terms of their body because they know themselves best without medical interference for both cases of nutritional and birth.
I would say that i follow whatever my mom tells me to eat but i don't usually. She suggests that i should be eating certain things but i just eat whatever i feel like it. Lucky for me though i like eating all kinds of foods from all food groups so i guess i have a pretty balanced meal plan. As for my mom she follows everything that's in the newspapers and infomercials and the suggestions of her friends. She still eats whatever she wants sometimes but she also curbs her diet a lot because of what she thinks she "shouldn't" be eating. She is constantly watching her weight because she thinks she a little bit on the chubby side but might i say, although she may be a little big for her height, she has been able to manage her weight perfectly. She hasn't lost or gained any weight, she has pretty balanced meals plans everyday and she has a regular exercise routine. I would have to say that my whole family eats the same way. Were a generally healthy family with healthy meal plans that consist of all the food groups everyday.

What We Eat (colaboration of me and Yazmin)
Yazmin and I both eat similar foods. We eat an equal serving of all the food groups every week. We didnt get very far. We got distracted by the fact that Oprah is buying everyone lunch at KFC. By everyone we mean all of AMERICA. Guess she doesnt know what to do better with her money. So now we're off printing out coupons for KFC. This should give you a hint of how we eat. We're pretty much family, me and Yazmin. Bye now.

May Day
On Friday our class discussion started with how many Americans don’t remember what May Day was. I just got up to ask my brother and sister in law if they knew what May Day was and they said it was a distress call, a call for help. In their minds, it has no relation to what May Day actually is but if thought about technically there is a relationship. Workers were kind of putting out a distress call from their labor unions. They were in distress with all the work they had.
May Day was a day where all workers protested to the long hours that they had to work. Those workers always wanted to remember May Day as their day off but that tradition had slowly worn off because of the government’s influence on the American people. The government gradually weaned Americans off of the idea of taking off on May Day by giving us Labor Day instead. They gave us a day to have BBQs and enjoy ourselves in the sun. Labor Day was meant to show appreciation for American workers instead of having us take May Day off because of the little appreciation that were shown to labor unions.

Food Cultures- Home and Corporate
When at home, I eat dinner with the rest of my family at the dinner table. Dinner is usually at the same time everyday. Most of the time we eat home cooked Chinese food, non of that Americanized fake Chinese food made with msg. But we mix it up sometimes with Italian food or Spanish food. When we don’t have anything to eat at home, we go out to eat Japanese or Vietnamese or Indian, etc. My family and I eat a variety of foods. I would say that we are part of mainstream America. We go out to eat but when we do cook at home, we all eat together as seen in TV and movies.
When we eat at home, dinner is usually ready within half an hr to and hr. That is a much longer time than that of a regular restaurant we would go to. I would assume this is because at home, we have to make our food out of scratch while restaurants already have the food premade and just needs to heat it up on the stove. A lot of the ingredients at a restaurant is already prepared but at home, the ingredients are being pulled out of the fridge and cupboards as we cook.
I personally think that eating at home is way healthier than eating out. For one thing I know exactly what is going in the food that my family cooks. But in a restaurant I am not walking in and out of the kitchen to see what’s cooking like I can do at home.
Also at home, we can customize our food to the way that we like it. When we order a dish from a restaurant the food comes as the way that the chef made it.
In the end I feel that my family is very much like the family that is seen on mainstream television. We always eat dinner together as a family whether we are at home or in a restaurant.

Refrigerator Assignment
Milk
Eggs
Yogurt
Oranges
Salad
Salad dressings
Juice
Jelly
Veggies
Bbq sauce
Ketchup
Butter
Cream cheese
Asian sauces
Asian herbs
Mustard
Spam
Mayo
Tartar sauce
Hot sauce
Jalapeño peppers
Cheese
Apple sauce
Soup
Popcorn kernels
Pasta sauce
Based on the substances in my fridge I would say that my family’s food habits are pretty Americanized. We have a lot of perishable food items in the fridge but there are a lot more non perishable Asian products in the cabinets of my kitchen. It doesn’t look like we ever have a lot of stuff in our fridge but somehow we’re always having full meals every night. We also have many variations of sauces and this goes to show that sauces make up the taste of everything. Without a good sauce, a dish would not be good. The product in the dish, such as vegetables, may be good but if the sauce it’s made in is not good then it doesn’t matter that the vegetables are good and healthy.

Break Hw- Health Insurance
My family has Medicare and my mom told me that the health care isn’t that bad. So far insurance has covered mostly everything we needed. The only things that weren’t covered where some prescriptions. When I had braces, insurance covered it. When my mom gave birth to me, insurance covered it. When my sister was sick, insurance covered it. When my brother dislocated his wrist, insurance covered it. When I asked my mom if there were any heavy medical bills, she said that we were pretty well off in terms of medical care. I know this is definitely not the case for most Americans but according to my mom, we had “wonderful experiences where we were healed by loving doctors with no worries about payment.” I really don’t understand how we are so lucky especially since my parents came to the US with 2 small children and really had to work herd to make ends meet without knowing any English. When I would ask my mom how she did it she’d always answer with “hard work”.
My family’s experiences are way way way different from the experiences spoke about by Michael Moore’s SiCKO. Moore told us about the hardships that everyone who was lower than upper class faced when it came to healthcare. The hardships he mentioned should have presumed that my family suffered when they came to the US but they didn’t. They had more trouble with their neighbors than they did with money and healthcare. If you were to ask me how my family ever made it so easily on the salaries of a small restaurant chef and a back alley factory worker the only way I’d be able to answer you in with the words “hard work”.

Summarizing Week’s Lessons on Poverty and Wealth in the US
A couple of weeks back we played musical chairs in class. The chairs were suppose to represent the opportunities available to everyone in the United States. While a few of us had chairs with our names on them, others had to struggle to find a chair for themselves. I was one of the people who had a couple of chairs to myself so I had a chair available to me that no one else could sit in. I was one of the more privileged people who did not have to work hard to the main goal of getting a chair. This relates to how some Americans are born into wealth and therefore do not need to work hard to get what they want, those are the people with their own chairs. While these Americans are so fortunate to be able to survive on minimal work, others work hard and still struggle to survive.
In America people are constantly fighting and competing with each other to find a way to make money to support their families. Americans are fighting because there are on a certain amount of opportunities available to everyone. This would be an example of a more equal fight for opportunities. We played another version of musical chairs unlike the first version. This second version involved 21 people with 20 chairs and two people always had to fight for the last chair.
In the first example, it wasn’t the Americans’ fault that they are not able to get one of the limited opportunities because some had already taken them. But in the second example, it was the Americans’ fault if they were not able to get an opportunity because it shows that they did not work hard enough. It is always the person who works harder who will win in the end.

The Danish Visit
The U.S. Welfare System
I feel that the U.S welfare system is screwed up in some ways. I don't like how our government system is run by rich people to benefit rich people. Through all the different kinds of taxing systems, flat tax, regressive, progressive, in the end rich people benefit. It all may seem that it is geared towards making things fair but I don't feel so. It is made to seem as though everyone is paying the same amount of taxes for certain things. This may be true but while $5000 worth of taxes may be cheap for the upper class, it may take a large toll on the lower and working class.
When we called the agency that aided people in need, I was surprised that Andy was right about how if people were nice, we'd like them but they weren't necessarily the most informative. The two people we called were nice people but they didn't really provide us with as much information that we could have possibly gotten. From the information that we did find out, as Yazmin mentioned, it was strange that section 8 housing was not one of the first things offered. Jill has a 3 year old kid and shes pregnant and just got kicked out of her parents house, section 8 housing should have been the very first thing mentioned.
The Government System of Denmark
When we were taught about the Danish system, though I'm not sure how many people were actually listening to them talk instead of staring spacily into the Danish people's eyes, I was surprised at how their government system worked. I like it a lot. I liked how everything was pretty much free there. Free school (except private of course, I meant like "colleges" which were called universities when they moved into 10th grade and up), free health care, free hospital visits and all that good stuff. One of them, I think his name was Nick, said that it was hard to be poor in Denmark. That people would have to try hard to be poor since there was so much given stuff. Even if the highest bracket of taxes is 63%, it doesn't mean that everyone pays 63% of their income to taxes. That's the nominal tax. Their effective tax is closer to what our high brackets are. Since they are paying pretty much the same amount of taxes we are and they're getting free stuff while we have to pay for everything I cant see how some could possibly be poor in Denmark.
What Should We Do?
I think that we should adapt to the social government that Denmark has. I sounds pretty sweet. Think about it, people of the U.S would be paying the same taxes but we'd get free health care. Health care gets expensive. But of course that is just an opinion that will not be carried out because in the end, our government system is run by rich people to benefit rich people so they can get even richer.

yuukiwilkes123 (11:12:30 PM): I don't get it
yuukiwilkes123 (11:12:35 PM): Lolz
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:12:36 PM): lol
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:13:37 PM): the american way of birth is a hospital birth with machines and and mean doctors adn stuff
yuukiwilkes123 (11:13:49 PM): Oh
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:13:55 PM): the natural way of birth is a birth with a midwife
yuukiwilkes123 (11:15:47 PM): Well wat is yur arugment
yuukiwilkes123 (11:15:52 PM): Wat do び think
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:16:01 PM): that the natural way of birth is better
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:17:23 PM): Women in the U.S. should resist continuing medicalization of birth and return to more natural methods. Resist authority, “stick it to the man”.
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:17:34 PM): thats my thesis
yuukiwilkes123 (11:17:55 PM): I think modren way is better
yuukiwilkes123 (11:18:00 PM): Lolz
yuukiwilkes123 (11:18:05 PM): Humans keep on changing so should the way we birth the baby
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:18:22 PM): o?
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:18:26 PM): but why?
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:18:31 PM): in the end we are still humans
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:18:35 PM): humans do not change
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:18:45 PM): the technology that we porduce changes
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:18:55 PM): produce*
yuukiwilkes123 (11:20:36 PM): That sounds soild
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:21:27 PM): lol
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:21:51 PM): you dont want argue your opinion?
yuukiwilkes123 (11:22:52 PM): Lolz
yuukiwilkes123 (11:23:05 PM): Bc there are more bactira in the air then b4
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:23:42 PM): you do realize that hospitals are the the homes and source of most bateria right?
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:24:05 PM): it is the place for sick people to go; it is where all bacteria reside
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:24:17 PM): where they all come together
yuukiwilkes123 (11:25:01 PM): Yea well び get 2 sue them if there is a infection of any sort
yuukiwilkes123 (11:25:06 PM): So I think they r careful
yuukiwilkes123 (11:25:11 PM): Lolz
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:25:14 PM): lol
yuukiwilkes123 (11:25:20 PM): And if that was the case then no one would go if thay truley knew that the risk is so high
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:26:04 PM): but thats the thing, people dont know
they believe that hospitals are great and clean and crap
yuukiwilkes123 (11:26:12 PM): And in natrual birth び still go the doctor at the end
yuukiwilkes123 (11:26:37 PM): They r
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:26:47 PM): when in reality the bacteria that you are exposed to on a daily basis is less ahrmful than the bacteria that you face for the first time at a hospital
yuukiwilkes123 (11:26:55 PM): But human error can happen in both types of births
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:27:31 PM): yes thats true but cesarean rates pose a higher maternity death rate
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:28:08 PM): natural births rarely end up at the hospital
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:29:00 PM): only if there is a life threatening emergency do they go
yuukiwilkes123 (11:29:56 PM): But び need 2 check if the ★BABY☆ is healthy
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:30:17 PM): the midwife is trained to do that at home
yuukiwilkes123 (11:31:26 PM): Do び thing there is chance of び kno weather or not is the ★BABY☆ is crying in pain or just of birth
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:32:44 PM): i wouldnt know but a midwife would
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:32:49 PM):
yuukiwilkes123 (11:33:14 PM): Lolz
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:34:15 PM): a midwife is trained just like an ob/gyn
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:34:23 PM): they know everything a doctor knows
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:34:41 PM): they just chose not to used the equipment and procedure of hospitals
yuukiwilkes123 (11:35:22 PM): There r 2 many things that could go wrong in my opinion
yuukiwilkes123 (11:35:27 PM): Lolz
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:35:59 PM): but what kind of things? we didnt have teh technology we have now way back in the day adn kids still came out fine
yuukiwilkes123 (11:40:24 PM): Well then y do start using hospitals then lolz
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:44:36 PM): because is a place for help for seriously injured or ill
yuukiwilkes123 (11:45:25 PM): Y did they start using hospitals lolz
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:45:36 PM): who the pregnant women?
yuukiwilkes123 (11:46:14 PM): Yes
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:47:02 PM): because doctors give off the impression of being better than midwives with their fancy smancy unneccessary machinery
yuukiwilkes123 (11:47:37 PM): Well it seems like び kno wat r yur talkin about
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:47:45 PM): lol
yuukiwilkes123 (11:47:53 PM): Lolz

I thought this was a pretty funny conversation to have with a friend especially outside of school. It was strange because i wouldnt expect to have a conversation about a class outside of class. I was also amazed by how we actually kept it going when he didnt even know anything about the class. I didnt expect him to come up with as many arguments as he did and he actually knew what a midiwfe was. This goes to show that not everyone is completely oblivious to the actions of the medical world. Some people do in fact have some knowledge and are able to argue their opinions up to a certain point. While my friend was educated about midwifery and such, on the otherhand my brother did not know what a midwife was, he guessed 4 times and didnt get it. On our way to visit my grandpa at the Maimonides Medical Center, i asked my brother if he knew what a midwife was and he didnt know. I then proceeded to tell him about what we were learning in class and after a little while he wasnt listening anymore and wanted me to stop talking. Some people are just not educated on important information like this but some just choose not to learn. People like my brother who just so happens to have a wife thats a little over 3 months pregant. They do not know what their plan is, they are just waiting and going with the flow. Im pretty sure that shes just going to go to a hospital to give birth. She wouldnt care by that time, shes going to want to baby out of her ASAP. Shes already getting tired of pregnancy.
yuukiwilkes123 (11:09:52 PM): Wat is yur about lolz
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:10:05 PM): its a history paper
LaZI sH o r T iE (11:10:24 PM): on the differences between the american way of birth and the natural way of birth
yuukiwilkes123 (11:12:30 PM): I don't get it
yuukiwilkes123 (11:12:35 PM): Lolz

INTRODUCTION
Pregnancy. Pregnancy is a very tangible subject that provokes many arguments from two main sides, the all natural way of birth as we did back in the day versus the “American” way of birth where extremities have been included to “better serve” the woman. Over the decades pregnancy has been viewed from several different perspectives. It was once a spiritual right of passage for a couple to start a family of their own but now, it is seen and treated as a disease in the general hospital. Many technologies have been developed that is strongly advertised by doctors towards pregnant women. Women are constantly encouraged to give birth within a hospital where there is immediately medical help if it is needed. Little do these women know that that are getting pulled into a trap that hospitals have set up to lure them into a higher rate of Cesarean sections, a nightmarish experience (in comparison to the sacred experience that a small minority of people still see birth as) which all leads to a high medical bill due to the usage of multiple machineries and the labor of experienced personnel. Yet these peculiar women completely overlook these facts and see hospitals as a completely safe environment where they will be well taken care of and cannot see past the foreshadowing faces of the hospital employees. Women in the U.S. should resist continuing medicalization of birth and return to more natural methods. Resist authority, “stick it to the man”.
ARGUMENT # 1: Cesarean Sections
Cesarean sections have been on a gradual rise since it was first used in the birth of Caesar. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that the rate of Caesarean sections should not exceed 15% in any country. In 2006, the rate of U.S. births by C-section was 31.1%. (Wikipedia) Women believe anything doctors say when they are in labor. When the doctor says its time for the baby to be born and that there can be serious medical complications, women do what the doctors say. If women continue to follow every suggestion that doctors come up with, cesarean rates will continue to rise until it is the only way of birth in America. Medical decisions at hospitals are made by monetary and legal decisions rather that what it best for the mother. Statistics show that the rate of maternal mortalities is higher when there is a cesarean birth. Most women do not look into statistics before they plan out their pregnancy therefore they are ignorant to the fact that doctors tend to take over and are pressured into doing what the doctors think is “best”. Women do not need all the medical advice given by doctors at hospitals, they need to trust their instincts and go with the more conventional method of natural birth where they can listen to the needs of their bodies instead of going at the schedule of doctors.
ARGUMENT # 2: Nightmare Experience vs. Sacred
When women enter a hospital to give birth, they are immediately started on the procedure of the hospital. If the woman has not dilated to an expected width in a certain amount of time set up by the hospital, they are given pitossin to speed up the labor. When given pitossin, the women are in extreme pain because the contractions are violent so they are then given an epidural. When given the epidural more pitossin is needed because the labor is slowed down by epidural. Women have to go through a continual cycle that medical personnel conduct. They no longer have control of their own labor when they are entered into this draining cycle. These women have the memory of a nightmare experience during labor. At a hospital they cannot do anything but lay in one stationary position hooked up to multiple machines while strangers walk in and out of the room in comparison to the comfort of a natural birth at either a birthing center or at home. When women have natural births, they are free to move around and do whatever they want to be comfortable. Women who chose the path of natural birth make their own decisions and the birth of their child is entirely dependant on the pace of their bodies and not the pace that the pitossin conducts. They have control of their labor. The birth is thought of as a sacred right of passage. It is seen as something that the women goes through in order to start a loving family of her own instead of something that she had to go through because she got knocked up. Women need to take charge and give birth according to the birthing plan that they dream about without the interference of unnecessary doctoral orders.
ARGUMENT # 3: Cost ^
Cost is a very considerable aspect in pregnancy. When it comes to cost, some may think that a hospital birth is better because the birth will be covered by insurance but what others may not know is that if people were to have natural births, the price of insurance will go down. The average cost of a normal vaginal birth in the US is around $8,800 according to recent research, while the average cost of a cesarean birth is around $11,000. Costs can run up to $24,000, with fees like $6,500 for services from a Birth Center, $9,800 for 2 nights stay at Neonatal Intensive Care, and $4,100 for 2 nights stay at the Maternity Ward for the mother. While insurance will cover the cost of the procedure for many in the US, for those who find themselves unexpectedly pregnant, many insurance companies will refuse new service. (Bangkok Hospital) Assuming an uncomplicated pregnancy ending in a vaginal birth, patients would pay between $1,455 and $7,884 out-of-pocket for a midwife. (Todd Zwillich, WebMD Health News) There is a large difference in numbers between a hospital birth and a birth with a midwife. When paying a midwife, a couple’s insurance will go down because they do not have to pay off what the insurance would have covered in a hospital birth. Considering this fact about money, women should do their research and see that hiring a midwife is inexpensive in comparison to the cost of showing up at a hospital to give birth.

Outline for Paper on Birth Unit
Essential Question
What are the pros and cons of the Natural Way of Birth in comparison to the American Way of Birth?
Thesis
The Natural Way of Birth has many pros and cons on comparison to the American Way of Birth when it boils down the the experience and cost of each.
Argument #1
Pros of the NWOB
-more comfortable for the woman
-no drugs needed
-go at the woman's pace
-less hectic, a calmer environment based on the love of the people around the woman. The woman can choose her environment(the people, the place, etc.)
Argument #2
Pros of the AWOB
-insurance covers the hospital birth
-the woman is already in the hospital if any complications occur during labor.
-If the woman does not want to continue her labor anymore, she can choose to have a Cesarean section.
-A woman had more options in a hospital )epidural, pitossin, c-section, circumcision, etc.)
Argument #3
Cons of the NWOB
-insurance does not cover the cost of a home birth.
-If medical attention is needed from the hospital, there may be unexpected problems.
-Tremendous pain
-The woman had to endure her labor as long as long as she can without pitossin or an epidural.
Argument #4
Cons of the AWOB
-hectic scenery at the hospital. many people shouting and going in and out of the room, non of which is the woman's doctor until active labor starts.
-the nurses and doctors choose the pace of the woman's labor by controlling it with pitossin.
-the doctor decides if a c-section is needed based on how long you have been in labor already, not based on any complications of the woman.
-the woman is kept in one stationary position so the doctors can have more "control" while the woman would have an easier time giving birth if she was in a position she was comfortable in.
Conclusion
Sums up all the arguments and how the NWOB is overall better than the AWOB.

Business of Being Born
I liked the movie. I thought it was very informational on the topic of birth. There was a distinct contrast between natural births and hospital births. Though there was a distinct contrast between the two ways of birth, I felt that the video was biased. I felt that it made all hospital births look bad and that every expecting woman should have a natural birth wither at home or at a birthing center. Even though I believe that natural births are better, I can’t deny the fact that not all hospital births are that bad. The hospital is indeed the doctors’ home and they expect things to go their way but the woman also plays a major role in decision making. If a woman kept her cool (I know it’ll be hard when in labor, but “if”) then the woman would be able to have more judgment on the outcome of her baby’s birth.
I understand that the statistics state that a U.S hospital is probably one of the worst places to have a child since the death rates of both mother and child are at an unusual high. But those are only the result of rising cesarean sections. And the rise in cesarean sections is a result of doctors scaring pregnant women while they are in labor. I’m just saying that woman can have more of the decision making process if they just stood up to doctors. Women look at doctors as if they were high and mighty and that everything they say if right. Women should stand their ground and choose how they want to give birth to their babies. I see doctors as only people who are there of assistance to anyone who needs medical attention. “ASSISTANCE” meaning they are there to help patients do what they want. Of course the doctors have the medical knowledge and it will play a major role but the patient is the one who should choose how they want to be treated. In my opinion pregnant women are different from a sick patient. Pregnancy is natural, they do not necessarily need medical attention, the women only goes to the doctor to seek their medical knowledge of how the birth is going and if they baby has any complications. Doctors do not get to choose the speed and style of a child’s birth, the mother should go at the pace that her body wants to go.

Break Homework
Giraffe Birth:
Labor-2 feet emerge
3 hours till birth
Lots of liquids
Umbilical cord breaks
Wild-newborns are up on their feet in 30 minutes
My Reaction:
I thought the giraffe birth was slightly disturbing seeing how there were two legs sticking out of the giraffe’s butt. I was surprised to hear that the labor process was only 3 hours long before the baby giraffe was born. It’s a lot shorter than the labor process of a human giving birth. I was also surprised to learn that a baby giraffe would stand up in the matter of 30 minutes in the wild to get away from predators because it takes a human baby months to be able to stand up on our own. That just goes to show how the food chain is in our society, humans are way up higher than giraffes since we don’t have to be up and running away from predators in 30 minutes.
Dolphin Birth:
Baby tail sticking out
Actual birth looked really smooth and fast
Blood
Lots of murky liquid
Baby dolphin immediately started swimming alongside mother
My Reaction:
I kind of liked/ enjoyed watching the dolphin birth more than I did the giraffe birth. The dolphin made it look so easy; it was just swimming around and around the tank with the baby tail sticking out until the baby dolphin came out. The giraffe birth and the dolphin birth were very similar. A part of the baby was sticking out, the actual birth looked smooth and fast, and there was a lot of liquid. When the dolphin gave birth, it looked like there was just blood at first but then it because a murky orange/ yellow color, it thought it was nasty that the dolphins were swimming in their own blood.
Human Birth:
Many people comforting woman
She was more comfortable in a squat
Lots of breathing
Husband delivered
Birth was slow
Ended up sitting up for birth
Looked painful
Baby came out really easily after its shoulders came out
My Reaction:
I expected the human birth to be grosser than it actually was. The environment in the video was rather soothing. Everyone in the video were talking in low voices trying to direct the birth and trying to comfort he woman. Everything seemed as though it ran smoothly without any complications. The woman kept changing positions to get comfortable and there wasn’t a doctor to tell her she couldn’t do what she wanted to do. It was basically a much more comfortable environment compared to that of a birth played out on the big screen. When the head emerged and a woman held up a mirror for the mother to see, I thought it was quite nasty because if I were giving birth I do NOT want to see what is going on down there; I would just concentrate on getting the baby out without any further distractions. I also thought it was nice that the husband delivered the baby with the guidance of an experienced woman. The mother must have felt she was safe and there was no need to be scared of anything that might happen because there was someone she trusted most delivering her baby.
C-Section:
Lots and lots of blood
Putting pressure at top of stomach made baby pop out
Head just popped out
Doctor looked like he was yanking the baby out by the head
My Reaction:
You were right to say that people who had a weak stomach should not watch this video. It was truly disgusting. There was SOOOO much blood. I didn’t know someone had so much blood in their stomachs. I was surprised when I the baby’s head literately just popped out. In c-sections, I thought that the doctors could just reach in and take the baby out of the stomach I didn’t know they had to put pressure on the stomach so the baby would slide out. I was interested in seeing what happened to the lady after the baby came out. I did not like how the doctors were laughing when the baby came out and were so calm when there is a woman losing a massive amount of blood on the operating table.
Monty Python: Hospital sketch:
Hahaha
All machinery
Care more about the machinery that the patient
Portrayed as fast
It was all rushed
The doctors and nurses all left really fast
Lots of people
Bright lights
Whole room was filled with machinery
Casual conversation about machinery while woman was suppose to be giving birth
My Reaction:
I thought this was really funny. I felt they did a good job portraying how the minds of doctors work. They care a lot more about machinery thinking that the machinery is going to help make the patient more comfortable. Instead the patient looked nervous or scared that there were so many machines in the room and hooked up to her. She looked especially scared when the doctors told her that the beeping noise made sure that the baby was still alive, I would have been high stung if I heard that from my doctor. I would be on the edge waiting for the next beep and if it took too long I would definitely freak out and lose focus on getting the baby out. Everything was really rushed and it related back to what you said about how doctors don’t want to spend all their time delivering a baby therefore they inject many medications into the mother and hook her up to many machines to speed up the process.
Analysis on the AWOB
One big thing that I really do not like about the AWOB is the fact that doctors seem selfish. They seem as though they want to rush births just to get them over with so they they go on with their own lives. I do not feel that it is fair that pregnant women have to suffer more excruciating pain just because the doctor wants to "play golf" as in the example from class. Why should pregnant women have to go through the ordeal of several injections into their bodies because doctors want too speed up the birthing process so they can go enjoy their personal time? Multiple injections are also harmful for the baby because they are born intoxicated with all the medicine that the doctor decided to inject into the mother during labor.
I do not like the idea that doctors want to rush the process and induce more pain onto the woman but i do understand why they do it sometimes and women would agree to have the multiple injections. Since there is more technology int he world now, "the labor process has been alienated from the woman." In the AWOB women scream in pain for the doctors to take away that pain and get the "thing"(not even baby) out of their stomach as fast as possible.
As a woman and someone who aspires to be a doctor(not necessarily an OB/GYN), i kind of understand the two different sides of the story. As the woman i would want as little pain as possible and the baby to be born as soon as possible but i would also want the baby to be born healthy but the idea that it will potentially come out in danger because of intoxication it would be a hard choice for me. But from a potential doctor's point of view, if an angry pregnant woman was screaming at me to relieve the pain and get the baby out ASAP i would speed up the labor process the best i can without endangering the mother or child.
Money-wise, the cost of an AWOB is extremely high. Now that concept i really do not understand. I know the doctors, nurses, medications and hospital care cost money but the difference between the AWOB cost and the NWOB cost is a gigantic difference. There is no reason for the medical bill from a hospital birth to be at least $10,000 when compared the the approximate price of $300 for a natural birth.

Q&A (Focus - in the U.S.)
Percentage of teen pregnancies:
Over forty percent of adolescents will become pregnant before reaching age twenty(41 percent of whites and 63 percent of nonwhites). By age 18, one in four young women(24 percent) will have a pregnancy.
Of the total number of teen pregnancies, approximately half occur with eighteen & nineteen years old.
The United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate of any developed country. It is twice as high as England, France & Canada, three times as high as Sweden and four times as high as The Netherlands
(http://www.teenshelter.org/data.htm)
Average age of first childbirth:
The average age of childbirth in the U.S. is 24.9 years old.
Percentage of abortions:
INCIDENCE OF ABORTION
• Nearly half of pregnancies among American women are unintended, and four in 10 of these are terminated by abortion. Twenty-two percent of all pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) end in abortion.
• Forty percent of pregnancies among white women, 69% among blacks and 54% among Hispanics are unintended.
• In 2005, 1.21 million abortions were performed, down from 1.31 million in 2000. From 1973 through 2005, more than 45 million legal abortions occurred.
• Each year, about two percent of women aged 15-44 have an abortion; 47% of them have had at least one previous abortion.

Percentage of male circumcision:
Whites, about 80% , and blacks about 45%. In some hospitals, more than 90 percent of boys were circumcised.
Percentage of maternal deaths:
The historical level of maternal deaths is probably around 1 in 100 births. Mortality rates reached horrible proportions in maternity institutions in the 1800s, sometimes climbing to 40 percent of birth giving women. At the beginning of the 1900s, maternal death rates were around 1 in 100 for live births. The number today in the U.S. is 11 in 100,000, a decline by orders of magnitude.

Percentage of pregnant women with STDs:
About 25 to 30 percent of pregnant women have the herpes virus. In the U.S., as many as 16 percent of pregnant woman have Bacterial Vaginosis (BV). An estimated 2.8 million Americans are infected with Chlamydia each year -- including 200,000 pregnant women. Estimated to affect 80,000 pregnant women each year, trichomoniasis is the most common STD among women.

Percentage of premature births:
Some 12.3 percent of all babies – 499,008 infants -- were born prematurely (less than 37 weeks gestation) in 2003, according to the report released by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). That's up from 12.1 percent (or about 480,000 babies) in 2002 – and an increase of more than 30 percent since the government began tracking premature births in 1981. The prematurity rate was 9.4 in 1981; it has increased every year since then except for slight dips in 1992 and 2000.
Percentage of c-section births:
Nearly three in 10 babies born in the United States are now delivered by C-section.
According to the Public Citizen Health Research Group, certified nurse-midwives have a cesarean section rate of 11.6 percent compared with a national average of 23.3 percent.
Percentage of adoption:
In the 1990s, there are approximately 120,000 adoptions of children each year. This number has remained fairly constant in the 1990s, and is still relatively proportionate to population size in the U.S.
104,000 children were adopted in 1986, 53,000 of whom were related adoptions and 51,000 of whom were unrelated. In addition, approximately 10,000 children were adopted from abroad, bringing the total number of unrelated adoptions to 61,000. (Bachrach, London, Maza, 1991)
The estimated total number of adoptions has ranged from a low of 50,000 in 1944 to a high of 175,000 in 1970. The number of adoptions by unrelated petitioners declined from a high of 89,200 in 1970 to 47,700 in 1975, while the number of adoptions by related petitioners remained constant between 81,000 and 89,000 during this period.

Percentage of stillbirths:
Stillbirth is a relatively common, but often random, occurrence. The mean stillbirth rate in the U.S. is approximately 1 in 115 births, which is roughly 26,000 stillbirths each year, or on an average one every 20 minutes.
Percentage of natural births:
Midwives attend 6 percent of all births in the United States.
Of midwife-attended births, 95 percent occur in hospitals, 3 percent occur in birth centers, and 1 percent occur in private homes.
According to the World Health Organization, 90 to 95 percent of the entire world's births are normal.

Average time that baby stays in hospital:
Depends on mother and wellness of the baby. Usually, vaginal births stay for 2 days and c-sections stay for 3 days. Premature babies stay much longer. If it was a great birth and there were no problems, the family went home a few hours to 24 hours after birth.

Most of the questions i answered were based on the wellness of the child and mother. I was somewhat surprised to find the statistics to the answers. The numbers are pretty high for the negative questions such as teen pregnancies, abortions and premature babies. As for teen pregnancies, i deem it a negative factor because i do not think teenagers should be having children. Not even if they say they are totally ready. In my opinion, i think women should at least finish school and find and a stable job before having children. A teenager cannot achieve both those things at such a young age. I saw an episode of the Tyra Banks Show once and it was on the topic of of teenagers starting families. I am all for the idea of teenagers falling in love and getting married and what not but i don't think they should be having children. They have their whole lives ahead of them and i don't think they should jump the gun in life. Tyra interviewed a young couple of late teens with 2 children and they said they hated having started a family so soon. They were under extreme pressure and stress on how to support the premature family that they have created.
