When at home, I eat dinner with the rest of my family at the dinner table. Dinner is usually at the same time everyday. Most of the time we eat home cooked Chinese food, non of that Americanized fake Chinese food made with msg. But we mix it up sometimes with Italian food or Spanish food. When we don’t have anything to eat at home, we go out to eat Japanese or Vietnamese or Indian, etc. My family and I eat a variety of foods. I would say that we are part of mainstream America. We go out to eat but when we do cook at home, we all eat together as seen in TV and movies.
When we eat at home, dinner is usually ready within half an hr to and hr. That is a much longer time than that of a regular restaurant we would go to. I would assume this is because at home, we have to make our food out of scratch while restaurants already have the food premade and just needs to heat it up on the stove. A lot of the ingredients at a restaurant is already prepared but at home, the ingredients are being pulled out of the fridge and cupboards as we cook.
I personally think that eating at home is way healthier than eating out. For one thing I know exactly what is going in the food that my family cooks. But in a restaurant I am not walking in and out of the kitchen to see what’s cooking like I can do at home.
Also at home, we can customize our food to the way that we like it. When we order a dish from a restaurant the food comes as the way that the chef made it.
In the end I feel that my family is very much like the family that is seen on mainstream television. We always eat dinner together as a family whether we are at home or in a restaurant.
