Response to Pollan 1

I agree with the arguments stated in the first few pages in Omnivore's Dilemma by Micheal Pollan that Americans are so obsessed with health that many of us are actually confused about the way we should really be eating. Once Americans are confused about what to do we turn to the "experts" on the subject matters to tell us what to do. When we get anxious with what foods we should eat we turn to nutritionists thinking that they would know whats best for us by suggesting the same plan to everyone who asks but just in a slight variation. Pregnant women do just about the same thing when they are in labor, they get anxious and scared so they seek medical attention from money loving doctors who suggest to them the labor process of the hospital that is provided for every pregnant woman who comes through. Little do Americans know that they should know what is best for them in terms of their body because they know themselves best without medical interference for both cases of nutritional and birth.

I would say that i follow whatever my mom tells me to eat but i don't usually. She suggests that i should be eating certain things but i just eat whatever i feel like it. Lucky for me though i like eating all kinds of foods from all food groups so i guess i have a pretty balanced meal plan. As for my mom she follows everything that's in the newspapers and infomercials and the suggestions of her friends. She still eats whatever she wants sometimes but she also curbs her diet a lot because of what she thinks she "shouldn't" be eating. She is constantly watching her weight because she thinks she a little bit on the chubby side but might i say, although she may be a little big for her height, she has been able to manage her weight perfectly. She hasn't lost or gained any weight, she has pretty balanced meals plans everyday and she has a regular exercise routine. I would have to say that my whole family eats the same way. Were a generally healthy family with healthy meal plans that consist of all the food groups everyday.
